Course Description

In this two-day workshop we will look at what it takes to lead a Lean initiative -- from strategy and deployment to establishing a culture that will allow the improvement effort to become part of daily work. This session includes:

  • Strategic Thinking - Learn how to integrate lean with the overall strategy of the firm. We begin with a focus on identifying how lean manufacturing contributes to building value for the customer. Through a business case study you will learn a framework for thinking about strategy from an operations perspective. This knowledge will allow you to focus your efforts so that your lean initiatives translate directly to your overall company objectives and enhanced value for your customer.

  • Planning and Deployment - This segment will deal with the principals and practices of Hoshin Kanri/Strategy Deployment and will demonstrate a systemic approach to get everyone involved in an enterprise-wide waste elimination process. Guided by a lean business case and the discipline of project management, you will learn how to align corporate objectives and initiatives with work place activities, lean measurements, and targets-to-improve day-to-day operations. We'll explore implementation roadmaps and application of the lean process improvement tool kit.

  • Creating a Lean Culture - Continuous improvement is the outcome of building dynamic capabilities. In this segment learn what you as leader must do to create an environment in which employees are engaged, experiment, and where problem solving and improvement are part of daily work.

  • Optimizing the Lean Effort - Now that your program is moving forward you will need tools to ensure it is staying on track. In this session you will be introduced to techniques to allow you to do just that – gemba walks, progress audits, stand-up meetings, as well as a series of countermeasures you can employ should your improvement effort fall off track.
